In honor of Labor Day, Miami DSA is back at O Cinema South Beach on Saturday (9/5) for our most ambitious Leftist Movie Night of the year: a special 90th anniversary screening of Modern Times. This beloved classic was Charlie Chaplin’s last silent film and his farewell to The Tramp, his most famous character. Even more exciting: the screening will be presented on 16mm film!

In Modern Times, The Tramp is portrayed as a clumsy yet endearing factory worker who falls in love with a spirited young woman, played by Paulette Goddard.

Blending a stream of memorable visual comedy with sharp observations about economic hardship and social inequality during the Great Depression, Modern Times remains one of Charlie Chaplin's defining achievements. Although it was released well into the era of sound films and includes spoken dialogue and even a musical performance, the film stands as a lasting testament to Chaplin's extraordinary mastery of silent comedic storytelling.

Come watch one of the most entertaining class conscious films made during The Great Depression!
